Sheriff's Weekly Arrest Report

PictureAdam T. Harris
On 10/19/15 Deputies were called to the 3500 Block of Riverview Road for a Domestic Disturbance. Upon arrival, Deputies spoke to 23 year old Adam T. Harris, of Joppa, and a female. Deputies observed injuries consistent with the victim's statement. Adam Harris was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery.


PictureJeffery L. Sobat
On 10/20/15 Deputies were called to the 3400 block of Rocky Branch Rd. for a Domestic Disturbance. Deputies spoke with the family of 30 year old Jeffery L. Sobat, of Metropolis, who stated that he was extremly intoxicated and had shoved a family member. Sobat had fled the scene prior to the Deputies arrival. Sobat was later located and arrested. Sobat was charged with Domestic Battery.

On 10/20/15 Deputies responded to a one vehicle crash in the 1600 block of Dornbush Rd. Upon investigating the traffic crash, Deputies observed signs that the driver, 47 year old Chester Carnes of Brookport, was under the influence. Carnes was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence.

A Deputy conducted a traffic stop near I24 & US Hwy 45 on 10/24/15. The driver of the vehicle, 33 year old Brittany Dixon of Ledbetter, had a suspended driver's license. Brittany Dixon was charged with Driving on a Suspended License.

On 10/06/15 Deputies responded to the 500 block of West 9th St. in Metropolis for the report of a domestic disturbance. Deputies were told by a female that her boyfriend, 51 year old Scotty Doss of Metropolis, had shoved her into a wall and attempted to beat her with a shovel. Deputies observed injuries to the female victim. Witnesses also said that they observed Doss shove the female. Doss told Deputies an altercation took place between him and his girlfriend after she became intoxicated and busted a window out of their residence. Doss was extremely intoxicated and attempted to resist arrest. Doss was placed under arrest and charged with Domestic Battery.

On 09/25/15 Deputies were called to Rocky Branch for a Domestic Disturbance. Deputies were told that 34 year old Buffy Parker, of Metropolis, was intoxicated and had caused injuries to her husband. Deputies observed injuries to the victim. Parker was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery. She was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

On 09/25/15 Deputies were called to the Emergency Room at Massac Memorial Hospital to speak with a female who was the victim of a Domestic Battery. Deputies were told that the female's boyfriend, 40 year old Michael Eddington of Ledbetter, KY, had struck the victim numerous times with a large stick. The victim was treated for her injuries. Deputies went to an area on Unionville Rd. where the incident alledgedly took place. Deputies recovered a large stick consistent with what they were told. On 09/26/15 Eddington was located and arrested. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center and charged with Domestic Battery.

On 09/21/15 Deputies were called to East 3rd St. in Brookport to search for a man who had threatened someone with a knife. Deputies told that a man had threatened two people with a knife had had fled the area. Deputies obtained a description of the male and began searching for him. Deputies located the male a few blocks from the scene. The male was identified as 36 year old Joseph J. Pavone of Brookport. Pavone was arrested and charged with Assault. Pavone was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

On 09/16/15 Deputies were called to the 700 block of Mt. Mission Rd. to investigate a fight. Deputies were told by the victim that 33 year old Justin Fairfield, of Metropolis, had struck her and was threatening her. Deputies observed Fairfield to be highly intoxicated. Witnesses also told the Deputies that Fairfield was intoxicated and saw Fairfield strike the victim. Fairfield was arrested and charged with Battery. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. Fairfield is a parolee with the Illinois Department of Corrections. An IDOC warrant was also issued for Fairfield.

On 09/17/15 20 year old Christian Tolbert, of Metropolis, was attending a court hearing at the Massac County Courthouse. Alcohol was detected on Tolbert. Tolbert was arrested and charged with Illegal Consumption by a Minor and for Contempt of Court. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

On 09/12/15 Deputies were advised of a pickup truck traveling towards Brookport on US HWY 45 driving erratically. Deputies located the truck and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the truck, 51 year old Paul Rhymer of Golconda, displayed signs of intoxication. Rhymer was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Rhymer was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

On 09/12/15 Deputies were called to Barneys Market in Brookport for a person who trespassed from Barneys Market. Deputies located 63 year old Larry Helm inside Barney's. Deputies also discovered a pack of razor blades that had been stolen from Barney's by Helm. Deputies arrested Helm and charged him with Criminal Trespass and Retail Theft.

On 08/19/15 Deputies were called to the foot of the Brookport Bridge for a traffic crash. Deputies learned that 23 year old Candyce Champion of Paducah had struck the bridge and crashed as she was exiting the bridge into Brookport. Deputies discovered that Champion had a suspended drivers license. After further investigation, Deputies believed that Champion was Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Champion was arrested and charged with Driving Suspended and DUI. Champion was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.


PictureElizabeth Grounds
On 08/20/15 a Deputy was driving on 5th street in Metropolis when he observed 32 year old Elizabeth Grounds of Metropolis walking along the sidewalk. The Deputy was aware that Grounds had a warrant out of Massac County for Criminal Damage to Property. Grounds was arrested and lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.


PictureTawan Weatherford
On 08/21/15 Investigators went to Motel 6 in Metropolis to assist Detectives with Paducah Police in investigating a robbery that had occurred in Paducah. A vehicle was located at Motel 6 that may have been used in the robbery. Investigators entered the Motel 6 and discovered a black male had possibly jumped out of a 2nd story window and ran towards the Woodhaven area. It was discovered that the person who ran from Investigators was 26 year old Tawan Weatherford, who had a warrant out of Logan County, KY for Burglary 2nd. Investigators also learned that Weatherford may be armed with a pistol. A search was conducted of the area by the Massac County Sheriff's Office, Metropolis Police Department, Illinois State Police, Illinois Conservation Police, the Metropolis Fire Department and the Department of Natural Resources. Several hours later, Weatherford was located and ran from Officers. Weatherford was caught on HWY 45 by the Motel 6. He was treated at a local hospital for heat exhaustion and later lodged at the Massac County Detention Center on the Logan County, KY warrant. The missing pistol was not located.


PictureDonald Smith
On 08/21/15 Deputies were dispatched to the 7900 block of Unionville Rd. for a report of a Domestic Battery. Deputies were told by the victim that her husband had battered her. The victim had bruising and was bleeding from the altercation. Brookport Officers assisted with the call and found 51 year old Donald Smith of Brookport. Smith was intoxicated and belligerent with the Officers. Smith was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

On 08/10/15 Deputies were alerted of a person in the courthouse who had an outstanding warrant. A deputy went to the courthouse and located 32 year old April Antonacci of Marion, IL. Antonacci was arrested and lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.


PictureBrian Brown
On 08/14/15 a call was received by Massac County Dispatch of a reckless driver outside of Brookport. The vehicle was located and stopped on US 45 outside of Brookport. The driver, 34 year old Brian Brown of St. Louis, was arrested for Driving While License Revoked. Brown was released after posting bond.


On 08/15/15 Deputies were called to the 2900 block of Strawberry Rd. to investigate a Domestic Disturbance. Deputies learned that a physical altercation had taken place between 33 year old Ashley Buchanan and 45 year old Bruce Buchanan. Deputies observed injuries to both. Ashley and Bruce Buchanan were arrested and charged with Domestic Battery. Both were lodged at the Massac County Detention Center

Metropolis Woman Arrested After Bruises Discovered on Child

On 01/27/14 School Officials alerted the Massac County Sheriff's Department of a child that had visible bruising. Investigators say they found obvious signs of injuries to the child. After conducting interviews, Investigators arrested 27 year old Samantha Fiori of Metropolis and charged her with Aggravated Domestic Battery. It was determined that Fiori was caring for the child at the time the injuries occurred. Illinois Department of Child and Family Services assisted with the investigation.

Domestic Dispute Leads to Arrest

On 09/11/13 a Deputy was assisting a Brookport Police Officer with a Domestic Dispute between 2 sisters. The Brookport Officer had charged 23 year old Tamara Jones of Brookport with Assault. The Deputy was then informed of another Domestic Dispute that had occurred on 09/07/13 between the 2 sisters leading to injuries to the victim. The Deputy conducted an investigation and was able to determine that a physical confrontation had occurred between the 2 sisters on 09/07/13 that caused physical injuries to the victim. The Deputy charged Tamara Jones with Domestic Battery.

Domestic Dispute Leads to Arrest

On 09/15/13 Deputies were called to a residence in the 7700 block of Unionville Rd. for a Domestic Dispute. Deputies were told that there was a physical altercation between a father and son over a missing bag of Cannabis. As a result of the report, Cody O. Smith, 21, was arrested for Domestic Battery.
