Bicycle Stop Leads to Arrest of Metropolis Man

12/9/2019

On December 8, 2019 at around 5:30 A.M. a Massac County Deputy was in the area of 12th Street and Coburn Street in Metropolis. The Deputy observed a male on a bicycle and attempted to stop him. The bicyclist attempted to elude the Deputy on the bicycle. The male abandoned the bicycle and fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, the male was apprehended on Walter Drive. The male, at first, gave a false name to Deputies. The male was quickly recognized as 34 year old Walter Bauer of Metropolis. It was learned that Bauer had a warrant out of Massac County for Theft. It was also learned that Bauer was a convicted Felon. A Deputy searched Bauer's pockets and located ammunition and a used Hypodermic Syringe. Bauer was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.
