It's officially fall and the time of year when deer are on the move. More often than not, when they move they often collide with vehicles on the road, creating a headache for vehicle owners and causing them some misfortune.
But, for those deer collisions that come through the doors at Burnham's Collison Center, the vehicle owners' misfortune will help some children in Massac County who might not be as fortunate and might be in need of a Merry Christmas. Jimmy and Vickie Burnham, owners of Burnham's Collision Center, have teamed up with the Massac County Sheriff's Department for the first ever Shop with a Cop program. For every deer collision from Thursday, November 1 to Friday, December 14, the Burnham's will donate $50 to the local Shop with a Cop program. According to Jimmy Burnham, they usually have a promotion where they usually give away a turkey, but he explained this year they were searching for a new way to give back to the community. He said his wife did some research and found other collision centers that have teamed up with the sheriff's departments to make a donation to their Christmas shopping program. Burnham said his business will guarantee $500 for the program and will donate $50 for every deer collision vehicle they fix. "Or, if you just want to donate, come see us at Burnham's Collision or the Massac County Sheriff's Department," said Jimmy Burnham. "This is the first time that my office has been involved in a program like this, and we are excited about being asked to participate. My office has always been willing to serve the public any way we can, especially children. I believe that this will be a big hit in the county for years to come. There are lot of families in the county that need the extra help at the holidays and this is a great way to show our support," said Massac County Sheriff Ted Holder.
