On 02/26/16 Deputies received a report from a person who said that 38 year old Delman Elmore of Brookport had fired a pistol during an altercation between them. Deputies went to Elmore's residence on Warfield Ln. in the Unionville area. Elmore surrendered to Deputies without incident. A search warrant was then executed at the residence. Deputies recovered a .22 pistol believed to have been fired during the altercation. Deputies also located bullet fragments in the area where the victim told Deputies Elmore had fired the pistol. Elmore was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Possession of a Weapon without a FOID card. Elmore was jailed at the Massac County Detention Center. Elmore was previously arrested in June 2015 by the Massac County Sheriff's Office for Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. In that case, Elmore was accused of firing a pistol at another person and striking that person.
On February 19, 2016 Deputies were called to a residence in the 3400 block of Old Marion Rd. for an armed robbery that had just occurred. Four adults and four children were in the residence at the time. Deputies were told that a person entered the residence brandishing a pistol wearing a mask. A second person was seen outside the residence. Deputies were told that the person took a purse containing $1,000 and a debit card along with two cell phones. The cell phones and the debit card were located later that day in a field not far from the residence. The investigation led to 23 year old Jacob D. Smith of Golconda, 23 year old Melissa R. Dublin of Brookport and 27 year old Melvin Davis, Jr. of Brookport. All three were charged with Aggravated Robbery and Home Invasion. They were jailed at the Massac County Detention Center pending bond. The investigation is still ongoing and further charges are expected.
Warrant Arrest Leads to Chase
![]() Three hours after the arrest of Hornback, a call was received stating that someone was trying to break into Hornback's residence. A Deputy responded to the scene and was advised that a vehicle was seen leaving the residence. Another Deputy located the vehicle nearby and attempted to stop it. The vehicle then fled at a high rate of speed. The fleeing vehicle traveled Airport Rd, Upper Salem Rd, Macedonia Church Rd, Mt. Mission Rd, Crim Rd and Long Rd. The vehicle came to a stop on Long Rd near the Joppa Bypass. When the driver exited the vehicle, it lunged forward and struck a Sheriff's Office vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, 26 year old Justin Oliver of Metropolis, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding Police, Reckless Driving and Resisting Arrest. Oliver is a parolee with the Illinois Department of Corrections. Oliver was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center ![]() On 12/23/15 a Deputy responded to a single vehicle crash near Honeywell. While conducting the crash investigation, the Deputy detected an odor of cannabis. The Deputy located 42 grams of a substance beleived to be cannabis on a passenger in the vehicle. Julius Mahoney, 18 of Vienna, was arrested and charged with Possession of Cannabis over 30 grams. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. On 12/19/15 a Deputy observed a vehicle being driven by 29 year old Christopher Hornback of Metropolis. The Deputy was aware that Hornback's drivers license were suspended. The Deputy conducted a traffic stop and Hornback was charged with Driving on a Suspended License. During the traffic stop, the Deputy located plastic baggies with Methamphetamine along with smoking pipes and hypodermic syringes on a passenger in the vehicle. 32 year old Kellie Bates, of Metropolis, was arrested and charged with Possession of Meth, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe. Bates was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. ![]() On 12/17/15 a Deputy began searching for a vehicle that had been reported to be driving erratic on ILL 145. The Deputy eventually located the reported vehicle on 12th St. in Metropolis. The Deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the traffic stop, the Deputy was advised that the vehicle had been reported stolen from a local car dealership to the Metropolis Police Department. The driver of the vehicle, 34 year old Daryl Kommer of Metropolis, was arrested by the Deputy and charged with Driving on a Suspended License after he learned that Kommer's license were suspended. The Metropolis Police Department handled the stolen vehicle charges. Kommer was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. ![]() On 10/19/15 Deputies were called to the 3500 Block of Riverview Road for a Domestic Disturbance. Upon arrival, Deputies spoke to 23 year old Adam T. Harris, of Joppa, and a female. Deputies observed injuries consistent with the victim's statement. Adam Harris was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery. ![]() On 10/20/15 Deputies were called to the 3400 block of Rocky Branch Rd. for a Domestic Disturbance. Deputies spoke with the family of 30 year old Jeffery L. Sobat, of Metropolis, who stated that he was extremly intoxicated and had shoved a family member. Sobat had fled the scene prior to the Deputies arrival. Sobat was later located and arrested. Sobat was charged with Domestic Battery. ![]() On 10/20/15 Deputies responded to a one vehicle crash in the 1600 block of Dornbush Rd. Upon investigating the traffic crash, Deputies observed signs that the driver, 47 year old Chester Carnes of Brookport, was under the influence. Carnes was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence. ![]() A Deputy conducted a traffic stop near I24 & US Hwy 45 on 10/24/15. The driver of the vehicle, 33 year old Brittany Dixon of Ledbetter, had a suspended driver's license. Brittany Dixon was charged with Driving on a Suspended License. ![]() On 10/06/15 Deputies responded to the 500 block of West 9th St. in Metropolis for the report of a domestic disturbance. Deputies were told by a female that her boyfriend, 51 year old Scotty Doss of Metropolis, had shoved her into a wall and attempted to beat her with a shovel. Deputies observed injuries to the female victim. Witnesses also said that they observed Doss shove the female. Doss told Deputies an altercation took place between him and his girlfriend after she became intoxicated and busted a window out of their residence. Doss was extremely intoxicated and attempted to resist arrest. Doss was placed under arrest and charged with Domestic Battery. ![]() On 09/30/15 a Deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on Joppa Rd. A computer check revealed that the driver, 26 year old Robert Hughes of Paducah, had a revoked Illinois drivers license. Hughes was arrested and charged with driving on a Revoked Illinois License. On 09/27/15 Deputies were called to the boat ramp in Joppa for an unruly person. Deputies arrived and discovered that 33 year old Christopher Kirks, of Paducah, had been working on a boat in the Ohio River. Kirks was found having a medical episode. It was later determined that Kirks had possibly injested a synthetic marijuana called "K2". Deputies recovered drug paraphernalia along with approximately 70 grams of a substance beleived to be "K2". Kirks was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Charges are pending on Christopher Kirks. ![]() On 10/01/15 Deputies were called to a residence on South US HWY 45 for a person taking items from outside the residence. Deputies arrived and located 30 year old Raymond Derry, of Metropolis, loading his vehicle with items from the area. Deputies arrested Derry and charged him with Theft under $500. Derry was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Massac County Sheriff's Office. ![]() After several months of searching and investigating, Jeffery S. Ogle was captured on 10/04/15. Tips led Deputies to a campsite near Joppa, IL. Ogle was located at the campsite and arrested without incident. Deputies were assisted by the Illinois State Police and the Metropolis Police Department. Additional charges of Theft, Fleeing and Eluding Police, Criminal Damage to Property, Theft of Government Property and Numerous Violations of an order of Protection are expected. Ogle is also being held for additional charges of Theft and Residential Burglary from Pope County. ![]() On 09/25/15 Deputies were called to Rocky Branch for a Domestic Disturbance. Deputies were told that 34 year old Buffy Parker, of Metropolis, was intoxicated and had caused injuries to her husband. Deputies observed injuries to the victim. Parker was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery. She was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. ![]() On 09/25/15 Deputies were called to the Emergency Room at Massac Memorial Hospital to speak with a female who was the victim of a Domestic Battery. Deputies were told that the female's boyfriend, 40 year old Michael Eddington of Ledbetter, KY, had struck the victim numerous times with a large stick. The victim was treated for her injuries. Deputies went to an area on Unionville Rd. where the incident alledgedly took place. Deputies recovered a large stick consistent with what they were told. On 09/26/15 Eddington was located and arrested. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center and charged with Domestic Battery. ![]() On 09/21/15 Deputies were called to East 3rd St. in Brookport to search for a man who had threatened someone with a knife. Deputies told that a man had threatened two people with a knife had had fled the area. Deputies obtained a description of the male and began searching for him. Deputies located the male a few blocks from the scene. The male was identified as 36 year old Joseph J. Pavone of Brookport. Pavone was arrested and charged with Assault. Pavone was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. ![]() On 09/16/15 Deputies were called to the 700 block of Mt. Mission Rd. to investigate a fight. Deputies were told by the victim that 33 year old Justin Fairfield, of Metropolis, had struck her and was threatening her. Deputies observed Fairfield to be highly intoxicated. Witnesses also told the Deputies that Fairfield was intoxicated and saw Fairfield strike the victim. Fairfield was arrested and charged with Battery. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. Fairfield is a parolee with the Illinois Department of Corrections. An IDOC warrant was also issued for Fairfield. ![]() On 09/17/15 20 year old Christian Tolbert, of Metropolis, was attending a court hearing at the Massac County Courthouse. Alcohol was detected on Tolbert. Tolbert was arrested and charged with Illegal Consumption by a Minor and for Contempt of Court. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. ![]() On 09/12/15 Deputies were advised of a pickup truck traveling towards Brookport on US HWY 45 driving erratically. Deputies located the truck and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the truck, 51 year old Paul Rhymer of Golconda, displayed signs of intoxication. Rhymer was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Rhymer was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center. ![]() On 09/12/15 Deputies were called to Barneys Market in Brookport for a person who trespassed from Barneys Market. Deputies located 63 year old Larry Helm inside Barney's. Deputies also discovered a pack of razor blades that had been stolen from Barney's by Helm. Deputies arrested Helm and charged him with Criminal Trespass and Retail Theft. The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Massac County Sheriff's Office. ![]() ****UPDATE***** On 09/23/15 tips were received that indicated that Vick Barrett was located in Paducah. Officers from the Paducah Police Department located Barrett and took him into custody. Barrett was lodged at the McCracken County Jail pending extradition back to Massac County. ************ Vick L. Barrett,36 of Metropolis, has been placed on Massac's Most Wanted. Barrett is charged with Escape. Barrett was recently sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections in Massac Circuit Court on Meth related charges. Barrett was ordered to report to the Massac County Detention Center to begin serving his sentence. Barrett failed to show. A warrant was issued for Barrett in the amount of $10,000 cash.
