On Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 1:59pm, a 911 call was placed to the Massac County Sheriff’s Office from the Joppa High School stating that a student had made a threat of shooting up the school.
Massac County deputies responded to the Joppa High School within seven minutes of receiving the call
Upon arrival at the school deputies were advised that the student in question was now in the principal’s office. The deputies were advised of the comments that the student had made and his actions immediately after making the comment.
Deputies placed the student into custody and transported him to the Massac County Sheriff’s Office. The Massac County Sheriff’s Office discussed the detention with the Massac County States Attorney and the Massac County Probation Department and it was decided to house the juvenile at a Regional Juvenile Detention Center for the night or until he could go before a Judge.
During a search of the school no weapon was found.
